Holistic dance and movement for Health
Joy of Movement combines simple, flowing and easy to follow dance and mindful movement for women of all ages, fitness levels and experience. We encourage a sensory-based holistic approach with a focus on body sensation and feeling good rather than cardio fitness, though we do get fit in the process. Enjoy an hour and a quarter of breathing, stretching and non-impact joyful movement to a variety of uplifting and inspiring music. Participants are guided to follow their own energy levels and all classes end with mindful breathing and a meditative reflection / relaxation time.
We especially welcome women who haven't moved in a long time, or 'ever' in a class situation as we are a friendly, non judgemental group of a broad range of ages who just love to dance with no worries of 'getting it right’.
All classes end with mindful breathing, stretching and a meditative reflection time.
Absolute beginners welcome and your first class is free.

Dance background and experience
I have always had a deep love of dance and began lessons at an early age. Taking part in many stage shows, professional performances and dance exam grades, I gained a rich tapestry of experience which led me to pursue my passion of professionally training at the Doreen Bird College of Performing Arts in 1991 and also at The Royal Northern Ballet School in Manchester.
In 2008 I qualified to teach in The Nia Technique, a sensory based mind body spirit approach to dance and movement. After many years of studying different movement forms and various fields of body work including Tai Chi, Qi Gong and yoga and having a passion for dance that I wanted to share with others, I created Joy of Movement - a holistic dance and movement class for adults of all ages and abilities.
I feel I have developed a class where people are totally welcome and comfortable to be themselves, a place where people who have never danced before can feel confidant to experience movement in a new and safe way and to also offer a space for more experienced movers to discover new and deeper ways of being in their bodies.
